And the winner is.... Psychology Works!

We’re thrilled to announce we’ve won an ABP award!

| 9th November 2023

You may have recently heard that we were shortlisted as a finalist for ‘Excellence in Change Management’ in the Association for Business Psychology Awards 2023.

Well, we are beyond (beyond) thrilled to announce that we won!

Last night, at glittering black tie dinner and Awards Ceremony, in front of an audience of over 200 fellow business psychology practitioners, the winners of the ABP Awards 2023 were announced, with Psychology Works recognised as winner of Excellence in Change Management: Private Sector.

Established in 2014, the ABP Awards celebrates and showcases achievements within the world of Business Psychology, with a specific focus on directly demonstrating the commercial and practical value of Business Psychology to organisations.

The Excellence in Change Management category specifically recognises outstanding contributions made in the field of change management.  Finalists had to demonstrate how they had applied business psychology principles and practices to support organisations in managing change effectively. Furthermore, how they used psychological theories, models, and concepts to inform their change management strategies and initiatives and providing evidence of how the approach resulted in successful change outcomes, whilst effectively managing the people-side of change, and addressing the emotional and psychological aspects of transitions.

Our award-winning submission was “Transformational Change: Fostering Organisational Resilience through Business Psychology. Psychology Works in Partnership with the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal”. Working closely in partnership with the SDT, in the space of a dizzying three months we supported them to achieve:

  • A complete organisational restructure, setting them up for success in meeting their ambitious vision and strategy for the future

  • The uncovering of hidden internal talent, leading to the promotion of four internal candidates to key strategic and operational roles, including the appointment of the new CEO

  • The ability to take their people on a journey and build a solid foundation for longer term cultural change

  • The development of a clear roadmap for improvements and changes in their people and operational processes, systems and protocols

To say that we are absolutely thrilled with the result is somewhat of an understatement! Maria Gardner, Chief Business Psychologist, explains:

The ABP Awards were established just under 10 years ago to recognise excellence in the practical application of Business Psychology.  Winning an ABP Awards has been an ambition and aspiration of ours for quite some time. Knowing how rigorous the judging process is, and the calibre of the entrants, an ABP Award really is the pinnacle of professional recognition in the industry of Business Psychology.

After making finalist in the Health & Wellbeing category last year, we were so pleased to make finalist a second year in a row – to win this time round was absolutely amazing!  Also I’d like to say a huge thank you to the SDT for being such a fabulous client to work with and putting their faith in us as we took them on such a journey.

I think it’s going to be big cheesy grins all round for a few days whilst the news truly sinks in. Psychology really does work! (groan!)
— Maria Gardner, Chief Business Psychologist
